any recommends for PCI ata100 ide card....so that i could use more ide devices? btw i don't use raid....so any cheap and good cards to recommend?

the promise card seems to be the best one right now...and i think its pretty cheap

how about abit hotrod100? is it for raid?
this card is much cheaper than promise...how about it?

Yeah, the Hotrod is a RAID card. I've read that it actually performs pretty well, but I've heard too many horror stories about Abit's quality.

Are you sure you're looking at the right Promise card? I think you might be getting it confused with the Promise Fasttrack 100 which is also a RAID card and usually sells for around $75. The standard Promise ATA100 card can be had for around $30.

Get the promise IDE for 30. You can mod it to the $70 raid card for like $1.

That's only if you trust your soldering skills with delicate electronics. ;)

Aren't there different versions of the card? And if so, wasn't the mod only available on the early revisions of the card?

If you are buying a hd too I think Maxtor still has their $50 rebate on their ATA100 (free, basically). I think 30gb 7200 or 40gb 5400 is the minimum eligible. I'm running this and it seems fine. It says "promise" when it boots, so I guess it uses a promise chipset. A lot of people sell these on ebay, so you could check there.
