IDE Cables

My IDE cable to both my DVD-ROM and CD-RW just barely fits at 18". I've got problems with air flow so I figured I'd upgrade to rounded cables. I've read though that IDE cables can only be up to 18" otherwise data-loss will result as well as the computer being unable to recognize the drive.

Does anyone have cables over 18" and experiencing any problems? I really have to replace this cable, it barely fits...

I've heard some people going with 24" cables without problems in full tower cases.

I would run the 18" or shorter only. I don't have any problems with them here.

Both my IDE cables are the cheapest 32in rounded cables that I could find. Had them for 3 months and no problems at all.

They sell 24" for a reason obviously.. I have heard the "possible" data loss thing.. I use 18" and have no problems.. I can't see having problems with 24" unless you get unlucky. They wouldn't sell them if it was constant problems for people.. :)

scince your CD rom drives are ATA33 (at best) they will make no fuss about longer than standard cables, harddrives however that transfer waaay more data waaay faster, most likely WILL have problems ...
