How do you guys feel about using cables that are longer than the spec of 18"? I have a full tower case and from the positioning of the ide channels on my mobo, I need a 24" cable at the minimum(36" would provide a little slack).
Everything I have read says that if you go beyond 18" you leave yourself open to data loss. I know there are lots of people who use them who never have problems but I would be careful. I don't know what you are supposed to do when you have a case where 18" isn't long enough.
Generally speaking, if you buy a high quality cable from a good name brand, you should be fine. Buy cheap, and you could be in trouble. The spec says 18", but many people use longer cables without issue all the time. I guess it's just a case of your results may vary...
I`m actually running some cheap 24" round IDE cables from ebuyer UK,all I can say is they work great and I`ve yet to have any stability problems.I`ve been using round cables now for about 3 years and in my experience they`ve always performed as good as the standard ribbon IDE cables.
buy some antec cobra's .. they're good, i've had them for a while and i don't have any data loss, i believe it is 36" and i have a ton of slack on them.. probably what your looking for, they are even round IDE 🙂
