IDE Advice

I'm wondering how you guys would set up the following drives as far as primary and secondary IDEs and master and slave settings on each. The hard drive is my boot drive, and I want maximum efficiency for burning from my CD-ROM to the CD-RW. Here are the drives...

1) Hard Drive
2) CD-ROM Drive
3) CD-RW Drive
4) DVD Drive

Thanks in advance...

from advice ive previously received it depends gretly on how you want to use your cdrw.

If youre going to be mainly copying cds 'on the fly' from your cd or dvd drive have the cd burner and the source cd drive on different channels (preferably with the burner as secondary master although this will cause slowdown if you copy files from that source cd drive to the HD)

If, however, you intend to be burning files from the hard drive have the HD set as primary master and the CDRW set as secondary master.

I had a similar dilemma to you with an HD, CDRW, DVD drive and a zip250 internal. I ended up with it set up as follows;

pri 1) HD
pri 2) zip250

sec 1) CDRW
sec 2) DVD

I have since forked out the extra for a promise ultra100 card and will have everything running on separate ide channels once i get another IDE cable! 😉

hope this helps
