IDC: Windows cheaper than Linux

Yea, I saw that yesterday.
Anybody know where you can find the actual study? Can't even raise the bullsh|t flag on the basis of what they have in these stories. Other then the fact that a microsoft sponsored study is favorable to microsoft.

it's like "motorola funded research: mobile phone does not affect health", "philip morris funded research: tabacoo does not hurt lungs"

Nope, it doesn't make it untrue, just suspicious.
Anybody coming to a conclusion on the basis of these stories alone is nuts.

The biggest difference was in security servers, where Linux systems cost $91,000 over five years and Windows systems cost $70,000, IDC said. Next came print jobs, where a Linux server cost $107,000 over five years and a Windows server cost $87,000. In file sharing, Linux cost $114,000 to Windows' $99,000. In Web site jobs, Linux was less expensive at $31,000 to Windows' $32,000.
I really would like to see how are getting those numbers...

Also strangely they left out the fact that Win2K is only slated to be supported for 2-3 more years, so basing a 5 year study on it is pointless.
