Can you please show us some documented evidence of this? Thanks.

That's not evidence. Can you please show us evidence to back your claims? Thanks.
AMD themselves says that their depth buffer compression is lossless. If you go to their website and look up their hardware specs, it should list "lossless z compression" under every Radeon ever released.

I don't have any evidence, because it's what I've observed. I'm sure the reason AMD does it is because I'm probably only one of a few people who notice. If it increases performance, and only one or a few people notice the decrease in image quality, then they have no reason to change it.

You're welcome🙂

I saw quite a long time that nVidia admited that ATi's (Before AMD bought them), had a very aggressive Z-Culling approach in performance which helped a lot. Can't seems to find it, it was circa 2005-2006. Its also quite odd that nVidia had such strong hold on OpenGL performance when they launched the NV40 as the videocard designed to play Doom 3, the Radeon X800XT barely outperformed the 6600GT in Doom 3, and now the sides had been overturned. The issue with Fermi and OpenGL has been there since Fermi was launched, it remains a mistery until we find out why.

Just to see if it would run, I installed Rage on my work PC which has some terrible "Radeon 3400 Series" card.

It works. About 10-15 fps in the starting area. Not really enjoyable to play like this, but it does work, which is somewhat impressive.

and a 4200 would be even slower so their requirements were silly and need to be upped to a 3850.

Right, so that either makes it a bug or false advertising (if what you say is true).

In that case your comments will be taken "as is".
