I've seen stuff like this before. It's huge over in Europe, and the guys are in absolutely insane condition to be doing this stuff. A lot of 'em are current and ex-gymnasts.

aren't they literally destroying their joints by doing all those insane long distance jumps? or is there a technique to it that reduces the stress?

I'm sure they're causing long-term damage but they probably don't care.

I believe Discovery or TLC did a special on a French team that did this...it was just nuts.

I'm curious though...I know that your jumping ability is naturally limited, but how much could one improve with training? I can't jump worth sh!t anymore, despite being in good condition...I work out my upper body more than my lower...but how much would things improve if I were to target my legs?

I want to leap tall buildings in a single bound and whatnot :p

They are gymnists - its obvious from the way they move. They know how to land so as to reduce the stress, but there is a reason you don't see anyone over 30 doing professional gymnastics - it wreaks havoc on your body.

I believe your calves play a major role in your jumping ability.
