id like to stop being a fat bastard

ok, im 5'11" tall and currently weigh about 210lbs. Im 22, and have weighed 210lbs for maybe 6 or 7 years now.

Id like to not. 190 wouldnt bother me too much, even 180 if i can work down to it over time. mostly id like to get rid of this gut.

Ive got 2 kids, by myself, so going *out* or to a gym or something is out of the question, but i know i need some serious excersize. i can do an hour a night 3 or 4 times a week, but i couldnt possibly spend more than $200 and am not sure what to get. treadmill? excersize bike? elliptical thingymajig? im clueless about all of it.

also, i dont want to go on a crash diet, but would prefer to shoot for a lifestyle change. i love to cook and prepare my own meals, but i dont know what to shoot for as far as caloric intake on a daily basis. ive cut out most of my soda intake, eat a healthier breakfast than i used to during the week, but i could still use plenty of suggestions.

so what do i do? i couldnt tell you how many calories i average a day, except that its clearly too many. im eating breakfast at 5am, or 7am, lunch around 11ish, then i want somethign when i get home around 3, and then dinner... i have a sweet tooth, and stopped buying sweet snacks because id devour them :/ (the only thing ill get now is like an all-bran bar or maybe the 100 calorie snack packs of some sort)

so mostly i need some healthy, filling, low cal eating tips, a target calorie intake, and the best way to spend 200 bucks or less so i can get some excersize at home a few nights a week.

anyone?

Weight lifting would probably help a lot. Go to Johstonefitness.com and check out their forums. Lots of tips.

Start walking around more. Take the stairs, baby steps. No need to start jogging 5miles a day just yet. You could always get a treadmill for your home and watch tv whiel walking/jogging

Run. A LOT. Like 20+ miles a week. It'll burn that fat in no time. Sure it'll take a while to build your endurance but running will help you take off the fatty weight the quickest.

I have seen a few studies that diagnosed several overweight people and their weight loss.
The number one consistancy among the progressives was increased walking.
Like walking a LOT. When youre sitting around bored, go out and walk. Hit the treadmill every time you want to read or watch TV.

Also, try giving up TV altogether. I did it 8 years ago and never looked back. Life is so much more enjoyable when youre not chained to the idiot box.

When I cut down on soda and "energy drinks" it helped a lot. I usually just drink diet soda or water now.
I also walk every day which really helps.
I think I noticed the biggest difference in my weight when I got a bike and started riding it. Riding the bike is hard work, but it made a huge difference in my energy levels and weight. You could easily find a bike for $200. I got a decent K2 on sale for $239.
Riding a bike is also easier on your joints so it's especially nice if you have any pain or, chaifing during walks.

Good Luck!

You don't need to buy anything, and you can't buy physical fitness. Jogging is great, but you should probably start with walking. Pushups, situps, walk/jog should be enough to cover everything I think. The cardio is important (walk/jog), you want to keep your heartrate up for a longer period of time. If you want to buy weights, that would be nice too.

I should add the obligatory eat right as well.

Pushups and situps are a start, but you will get 5 times the workout for the same amount of time invested if you join a gym and work out with the proper tools. If you really want to get in shape the absolute best thing you can do for yourself is to get a gym membership and actually use it.
