I'd like a compact camera to compliment my XTi.

I have this camera. It's nice and compact, fits in your pocket. The startup time is very fast. I don't too much experience with other cameras, but this camera when you get into digital zoom, the focus mechanism makes a lot of noise (I usually don't zoom past the optical 3x though, and the focus mechanism is much better using only optical zoom). Another issue that the flash is kinda weak imo, it doesn't quite light up a dark room (I am a noob though, so you might have better luck).

it's not that you're a noob, it's that the laws of physics prevent it.

flashes are not intended to fill rooms.

Yea, S70 rocks. The SD900 will suck. I hate using the SD600 which my mom has. Its flash blows, and the image quality is nowhere like my Powershot G3. And of course I would take my Rebel XTi over that anyday.

However, the S70 is not too compact IMO. SD900 is definitely agood choice amongst compacts though. It's just that I'm so used to the ISO performance of the XTi as well as the clarity you can get with the lens compared toa tiny SD900 lens ><

I have one of the older Canon SDs and the ability to just stick it in your pocket when you are walking out the door is great. I find that I take a lot more pictures at more places because it is so easy to take with me.

well, comparing a the size of a compact camera to an ultra compact isn't going to be favorable to the compact. i've never had a problem putting my S40 in my pocket.

the problem with the S70 is that canon stopped making them about a year ago or so. but, it has a good lens, raw support, range of exposure options from full manual to full auto, and it uses the same batteries and memory cards as the XTi.

Here are some pictures I took today with my sd900. She's so hot, sorry for the somewhat blurry pics, I had to take them quickly (had to focus and shoot in about a sec) before the crowd pushed/blocked me out and I had to resize them because of pics.bbzzdd.com's 10 mb limit.

So cold out
But it was worth it
Yep
So cold, my hands are about to fall off
Warm up my hands please
Will you marry me?

:Q

Oh how I wish I were that pig lol. I would keep her nice and warm.

Yeah, definitely get the 800IS. If you wanted something with more zoom than wide angle then the 700 would fit the bill. I wanted to get the 800 but the wife wanted the 630 because of the big ass lcd on the back.

Nono, definitely I agree the SXX series can be put in a pocket, a man's pocket for sure. However I know women would complain about the SXX series a lot. I know the size differs, but I think the S70 is at a point where it gets a little hard to put in your pocket. I love the S70 because of the features you get that you can't possibly get on the SDXXX series, and the image quality is infinitely better, however if portability is still your concern, I have to say the the SD900/800IS.

Does Canon have a successor to the S70? It looks great, but I just can't see myself buying three year old technology.
