ID fraud options?

Does anyone have any experience with the various ID fraud detection/protection products? In the last week I've had fraudulent activity happen on both my credit cards, and I'll be on my way to the bank just as soon as they open to have everything changed.

I have absolutely no idea where our information could have gotten out. Neither my wife nor I have visited any phishing websites....or certainly nothing that required entering credit card numbers, account numbers, passwords (which have all been changed) or social security numbers.

We have visited the hospital a few times in the last month, so maybe there was crook on staff....I dunno. Or maybe an online merchant we visited was hacked...arrgh I have no idea.

So...I want to try and get something up and monitoring our credit reports/social security activity...however it works.

Any suggestions?

Did you use your cards in a restaurant or anywhere else where someone took your card and then returned it?

That's certainly possible, though no one's ever taken the card who wasn't our waiter (that I can remember). And I certainly don't remember ever using my AMEX card at a restaraunt. I basically have that card just for use at Costco, yet there was activity on both my credit cards. The only place I can think of that had both CCs on file is Paypal.

I have a credit card I use JUST for restaurants simply for this reason. Anytime you hand the card to someone who takes it out of your sight, they get that card.

Very low limit (<500 vs. other cards that range from 7-50k) leaves very low risk.

I wouldn't immediately assume ID theft, just that someone got your CC numbers. If you start getting a bill for a 50k CTS you didn't buy, then i'd start worrying
