ICS troubles

Ok, I recently got Diablo II and it has some pretty bad TCP/IP support (if you have a NIC and connect to the net another way, like my DSL modem, the only way to do a direct IP game with people not on the LAN is to take it out entirely) so I uninstalled ICS and took out my NIC for a day to play some with my friend. Well today I tried reinstalling everything and I just plain can't get it to work. Everything appears to be set up correctly as it was before this. I have an internal DSL modem in my machine, and a NIC that goes to a hub that goes to the other comp.

My connection works fine, I can see the other comp from mine and ping it fine too. It can see both comps and ping mine too and even gets assigned its IP as it starts up...but it just can't connect to anything outside the LAN. The only protocol (other than the special ICS ones) I use is TCP/IP.

EDIT: forgot to add, I wouldn't mind switching to some other form of sharing, but it has to be free and I can't find any that are.

Zeeliv,

I'm not sure I understand the situation. Correct me where I am wrong:

- 2 comps
- one with DSL modem and NIC (one you removed for DiabloII game) trying to run ICS
- one with a NIC and patched to hub as a client computer

You removed the NIC and unstalled ICS before playing the game, right? Did you remove the ICS through Add/Remove Programs or by simply deleting from Networking Properties?

You then reinstalled the NIC and ICS and it won't work anymore, right?

Please clarify.

When you pull ICS you have to uninstall it from Add/Remove programs or it gets boogered up when you reinstall. You have to see this under TCP/IP----- TCP/IP(Shared)->Dial-Up Adapter, and TCP/IP(Home)->Network Adapter. Without the (Shared)and (Home) you lose dial-up from the host. Reinstall ICS ...... it will be screwed up but then uninstall it from Add/remove programs. When you reinstall it again it should be OK.

Yes! Thank you both. I had uninstalled and reinstalled certain bits and the whole network (NIC, modem and ICS) numerous times in different ways but I had overlooked uninstalling ICS through add/remove programs. I did just that and now it is working fine again. Thanks a lot...guess I learned something new out of it though.
