ICS FSB generator heatsink

my local Radio Shack had them, I used a bit of superglue just at the ends of the chip to fasten it. no probs, been that way for 2-3 months.
 
guess the tape would be ok, I put thermal grease on the clock gen chip just left about 1/32 of inch on each end bare and put a little superglue on the end of the chip with a toothpick.
 
Yea actually the grease with superglue idea sounds a bit better. I think I will try that instead then. Thanx for your help.
 
Four words...

Artic Silver thermal epoxy.

That plus a 1" x 1" PGA heatsink will cure all your ICS heating problems.

Rumor has it that it helps and since I am having probs with stability after overclocking I figure try anything.
 
If you have a P3V4X that uses the ICS clock generator (which is between the RAM slots and the edge of the board, just up from the IDE ports - a small black chip with 'ICS' written on it) and you intend to overclock, a heatsink could very well make all the difference in the world. I get 148 FSB with mine easily, and I have a heatsink on my ICS chip as it got too hot to touch before.

Yep oddone that be the one I got. Crashes a lot when i'm at 933. Rock solid at 868 at default though. I upped the voltage all the wya to 1.85V so I thought hey maybe it is the ICS chip. The only thing is radioshack dun got thermal adhesive. You guys know if the thermal compound they got in the tube for 1.99 is slightly adhesive?
 
the ICS chip has a high thermal limit in its spec sheet, but as with all things OCing cooler is better. before the heatsink on the chip 140 fsb was about it for me, after the heatsink 144 fsb completely stable.
some guys are putting fans on them as well
one last thing get an Alpha for your cpu
 
Are you guys sure that it helps with the hs on it? Where can I find the ICS chip on my BX Master? Is there any more info that I can read from?

i find it hard to believe a P3V4X can't make it to 133fsb stable. I myself can't get my 650E on a P3V4X passed the 133fsb mark but asus wouldn't make a product that can't make it at least a bit passed spec.

 
Here is a close-up of mine with a 40mm fan blowing on it to keep it cool!! ICS chip I should mention that adding this heatsink and fan combo helped me achieve 150mhz FSB!! Before this addition I could only run at 142mhz!
 
Does anyone knows where is this chip on the BXMaster? I wanna to try cooling the chip.

chances are you don't need it on a bx-master.

The p3v4x needed it for high bus speeds because of the extraordinarily high-amount of heat hte sucker put out.
