ICS deny

I would like to setup ICS to allow a couple of computers to use a DSL connection, but would like to deny access to others.

What is the best way to do this?

buy a router, like linksys, then hardcode the ip addresses , then u can restrict wan access to whoever u want, i saw a thread in hot deals for 49 bucks, so might be worth it, I already have one and it works great. good luck.

There are plent of free programs that will do that for you.

Just check download.com and you'll get lots of proxy software that will pretty much do whatever you want.

If the people who are using the computers that you do not want to have Internet access are not familiar you could just remove TCP/IP from their computers and allow file sharing over NetBeui. Since ICS will only work over TCP/IP they cannot access the Internet. Just make sure to disable DHCP on their computers. If you only TCP/IP for network access just remove the gateway IP and any DNS server IPs, and again diable DHCP. This also will stop Internet access on their computers. Otherwise the router option would work the best and you can't beat the price either.

Nightowl hit it on the head. Just don't allow TCP/IP protocol to exist for internet access but transfer files via good 'ol netbeui or just even IPX for lan games 😛
Additionaly, proxy software on the server that you are serving up the ICS could be used. I think zonealarm works. Just go to the advanced tab in the app and tweak it to your liking.
g'luck
