After switching between three owners, the once-famous VOIP was finally put to rest.

TBH I had no idea it was still active! I didn't use it much myself and don't remember my number but used mostly MSN Messenger, but with Pidgen client in Linux. I was sad when MS pulled the plug on that as I actually did end up losing contact with lot of online friends such as people I played UO with.
 
I didn't even realize that ICQ was used for VOIP. Did you know that there are still people, working over VOIP lines, that still have no idea what that is?

My only complaint with is that once or twice every 10-20 years, I have some issue with it - the network interface device dies (eh, who cares, really?), the cable modem dies (now THAT I care about, well, as compared to most things I suppose).

Initially I'd been somewhat wary of QoS but shit, I can't remember the last time that even occurred to me.
 
It's weird how that sound is so ingrained in my mind, even though I never actually used ICQ all that much. I mostly used MSN Messenger.

I used ICQ to voice chat with a girl in Australia over dial-up back in 1998-99. The latency was like a full minute, LOL.
