ICQ leaking memory bad in win2k

whats the deal with this? I run windows 2000 just to get away from the memory leak problem..yet whenever I run icq, it leaks memory up to 100mb per day. If I leave it in detect mode (no connection) its fine..but as soon as I open it..I can watch it start leaking memory. When I first boot up, I have about 75mb ram in use. 1 day later its usually at 175-190mb in use, all while just sitting at the desktop doing nothing.

I've tried reinstalling icq by deleting the directory and removing all registry entries.

I'm using the newest version thats on ICQ's site, I think 2000b built #3279

any suggestions? I'd go back to an earlier version, but unfortunatly, one of my dial ups blocks port 4000 (the port used by versions 98 and 99)

I've had my ICQ and win2k open for about 48 hours now, ICQ is currently using 2,752k of memory. Not quite sure what your problem is, but my memory usage is under 3 mb.

I am using ICQ Version 2000b Beta v.4.6.3 Build #3279 in case you are curious.

thats whats weird..in task manager, it reports normal ram usage..however, under the performance tab, my ram usage keeps going up up up

the problem doesn't exist when I don't run icq...and after a day or so..my system starts stuttering

hmm, i just installed 2000b and it is one of many changes i have made since i reformmated after a failed VIA driver patch install. I've been having wierd crashes but i'm still not sure what its from

here's a current shot from just now..I booted the PC at 11am this morning..its currently almost 4:30

all thats running is this IE window, 1 instance of mIRC, motherboard monitor, and icq

Memory Leak

Dill,

Have you run your PC and found out what the memory usage was after a similar amount of time having not run ICQ at all? The reason I ask is this seems like normal memory usage for win2k.

its normal for memory usage to keep escalating until there isn't any left? I thought that was a common problem with windows 95 and 98, not win2k

Nope, I've never run out of memory, how much do you have? Do you encounter times when you can no longer load programs?

I have 256 mb

Its never gotten bad enough where it won't load programs, I reboot before that. it does get bad enough where my system starts to stutter tho.

I've been running for 3 hours or so now after reboot with no icq running, just disabled in my system tray. Mem useage is 75mb
