ICQ and ICS

Here's my computer setup:
win2k pro
dial up modem
ics
icq 2000/99b

client computers use dhcp for ip addy for now.

i can get icq to send or recieve files. it has something to do with ports, but i can't figure out how to do it. i use icq 2000 and clients use 99b. any ideas? thanx.
 
You mean you can't get ICQ to send and receive files? I think that's normal with ICS... since your computer is not connect to the internet directly, but through ICS, ICQ cannot establish a direct connection to send/receive the files.

So far I have not heard of a way to correct this... If there's a way, I would love to know too!
 
No, I don't think there is a way for the client machine to send and receive files. The host machine should be able to do that, I have heard people able to do that (though I couldn't), but there is no way for the client to do that.
 
Hmm... funny, for my case, my server was able to send and receive files. It was the one directly connected to the cable modem, and I didn't do anything special, just configured the cable modem as normal. But my clients couldn't send/receive files neither.
 
LOL. I can do this just fine using Win98 SE as a ICS server and Win98/2K as a client. To fix this, open up your Preferences from the ICQ main menu. Choose the Connection tab. Select I am using LAN connection, then select I am behind a firewall/proxy. Select the firewall settings button. Under here, choose I don't use a SOCKS server. Restart ICQ and see if it works! It should! I can recieve and send files easily.

Hey 1KrazyFool, thanks a lot! I had to mess around the settings in ICQ2000 a bit but I got it to send and receive files now! Thanks for your tip!
 
Go to Preferences in ICQ, then go to Connections,

At General tab, select "Permanent" for Connection Type,
At Server tab, select "Using Firewall" for Proxy Settings, but choose "Not Using proxy."
Then at User tab, select "Not using proxy" and "Use dynamically allocated..." in Advanced Users.

This is what lets me send and receive files... see if this works for you!

 
If you are talking about file transfers with AIM, I don't use AIM hardly at all so I don't think I can help you there. Great to hear that others got ICQ working.
