Hello. I'm hooked up to the internet through a LAN through my school...´whilst my brother sits at home behind his router with an ADSL-modem..now, we can't send files to each other, only thing that happens is 'could not establish DIRECT connection'
Now..any idea how to configure the 'fiirewall and proxy settings in icq to get it workin'?

Have the dsl/cable router pass connections on the icq direct connect ports to his machine. That should work.

I am planning to set up two computers at the house thru a router and my son does ICQ and on-line gaming so I was interested in your post. I saw this link on another page and it may help with your question. It's geared toward DSL but they talk about ICQ. Good Luck.

I thank you both for your replies.

n0cmonkey: Yeah, if I could do that, at least I would be able to send him files. He still wouldn't be able to send me files ,though, I believe. However, I haven't taken the time to learn the configurations of his router, but I'm gonna clout him over the ear to make him learn; 'cause obviously that router still has a lot of firewall-tendencies in it if it won't accept connections over any non-standard ports.
by the way, which ports does icq use for direct connections? :/

beloved patriot: Good info, couldn't find any solution tho ..
