Icon on Taskbar

Upgaded from win2k to XP-Pro. I have a scanner icon on my taskbar which has a red line thru it, so it probably is not operative, and am using the scanner system in XP. How do you delete the icon off of the taskbar so it does not show up every time I re-boot.

you are not using a scanner? i think you can go to the device manager (right click on my computer go to properties, then click on the hardware tab) and remove anything that has to do with your "scanner"

I am using a scanner. The icon on the taskbar indicates that it is not connected, and it is. How do I remove the icon.

You can select the option for windows to hide inactive icons, but that is as good as it gets. Right click on the taskbar and select properties for that option.

You need to prevent the application from loading.
If your not comfortable working in the Registry, try a program called Startup Manager.
It lets you disable, or remove programs and applications selectively.
I've used it on Win95, Win98se, and Win2000.
And its freeware.
