I have a p4c8oo deluxe and a abit ai7. The ai7 has the ich5r southbridge, is this a better raid solution compared to the p4c800 deluxe which has the ich5?

I am running 2x 36 raptors in raid 0. On my k8n neo platinum hdtach gave me burst at 199, on the p4c800 in raid0 (on the promis ft 378) I am gettung burst 116. Will the ich5r get me back to burst speeds around 199?

Thanx chris

Most likely it would, since the ICH5R is native southbridge-based and not stuck on your PCI bus (which is where you're running into that 116MB/sec wall).

Bigger picture: do you need that much straight-line burst speed for any actual purpose, or are you just addicted to HDTach for its own sake? ;) one real-world result using ICH5R and dual 74GB, single 74GB and single 36GB Raptors on an ICH5R. Note that the RAID0 array isn't the fastest game-loader in that test, either... single was faster.

Anyway, hope that helps some.

I thank you for the link, and the opinion!

Yeah, then it is probably going to be worth swapping boards for you :) If you're not already aware, there's quite a batch of BIOS settings that inter-relate on the Abit to make it do what you want. Or don't want, more likely. So here is something I cut & pasted just to help you be aware of all the places where you may need to make choices in the BIOS:
but where i think the main problem was - was in the bios settings - here are the settings that worked for me (this one is without raid - im waiting on a second disk to set up the raid):

note - these are from memory (and from your other thread) - i dont have the box in front of me atm:

Under Integrated Peripherals -> OnChip IDE Device:
IDE Bus Master - Enabled
OnChip Serial ATA - enhanced
OnChip Serial ATA Mode - ide
SATA RAID ROM - Enabled

Advanced BIOS Features:
Hard Disk Boot Priority - 1. Bootable Add-in Device
Bootable Add-in Device - Onboard sata
Boot Other Device - Enabled
I'm not saying you want all those set this way yourself, since you're doing RAID0 instead of single-drive, but knowing what settings it's looking to have tweaked may be helpful.

This may be true, although I just noticed, the games install about twice as fast on the raid!
