I just got done installing Windows 2000 on my new computer - patched it up, SP4, critical updates, security patches etc... virus software, the whole nine yards. Then I install Icewind Dale and get an assertion error. Uninstalled it and reinstalled it... same. Says on in the manual Windows 95...

I don't have Windows XP, so it looks like I may have to roll back to old Windows 98 to play my staples... that sucks

Anyone have this experience?

I checked some forums including the one at Interplay... some folks reported playing IWD no problem on 2000. I found if I deleted all the temp files, it would start up. I had copied my gamesaves into a mpsave folder and perhaps it didn't like that. I deleted the mpsave folder and now I can start a new game... I was hoping I could keep my gamesaves tho. Not really sure wtf was going on.
