I'm be looking forward to this as IWD is one of the very few D&D RPG's I never got around to playing.

I'm okay with them doing the EE's of these games, there is a whole new audience growing up that would never even think to play a game from 2000 if it were not for them updating them. So we will get IWD and IWD2 and then they are done with the low hanging fruit of the infinity engine since the IP problems for P:ST is not easy to deal with.

I'm hoping that after that they go back and do full remakes of the old Gold Box series, starting with Pools of Radiance. That was a good game at the time, but most people even here will never have played it because it is so old.

Or if they want to really make something most people have never played, they should remake Spelljammer.

Plenty of free mods inc widescreen mod here for ID2,BG etc...http://forums.gibberlings3.net/inde...ort_by=Z-A&sort_key=last_post&topicfilter=all

Off topic, but looking forward to Wasteland 2 (new RPG)in a few weeks time, got mine pre-ordered.

Yeah but some parts of the game cannot be modded. For instance, its not possible to add new feats.

I hope they add some of the 3.5 ed feats, such as more dual wielding feats. Well, for starters let me say I hope they do IWD2 EE in the first place.

I would also love it if they converted other games (IWD1 etc) to 3rd ed rules.

From the FAQ guys.

Q: Is there any DLC for Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition?

A: There are no additional in-app purchases required to access all of the content in Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition. Play the entire game with all its features, no matter what platform you're playing it on.

Looks like they've learned a little from the mistakes they made with BG1 and BG2 EEs.

Two years can be a few years 😉 ,it's not yesterday, anyway I'm looking forward to the new RPGs coming out soon 🙂 .

I've always felt that the minimum for the word 'few' is three. The word 'couple' is complaining that you're invading its space.

Bought it this morning, will play tonight, looks great.

I will never understand why they haven't released a BG3.

The publisher disappeared before it had a chance, and now there is the question of licensing for AD&D, but developer went on to do NWN and Dragon Ages, Mass effects,

Interesting. So 0% chance of #3? That sux

With the ending at the end of ToB, a Baldur's Gate 3 would just be an RPG set around the city of Baldur's Gate. BG2 came out before every game had to have an open ending for sequel bait and DLC; ToB wrapped it up in a nice little package.

There is, however, a good BG1 mod for NWN2; made by one of the Black Isle devs, if memory serves.

Look's like I have a good game to play during the Holidays this year after I wrap-up DA3. 🙂

A real unique aspect of ID1/2 that people forget sometimes is that you get to build your WHOLE party at the start of the game. It's really awesome the freedom you get in terms of building a custom party as you see fit. You can make the game much easier or much harder, depending on your choices here. 😛

6 monks. gg 😀

I'm amazed this old game can scale to any aspect ratio yet "new" games coming out today are locked at 16:9 and force us to look at black bars. Pretty interesting how we are regressing in some ways.

It's been quite some time since I played my disc version of icewind dale, but I'm guessing it was the same as baldur's gate 1 and 2....i.e. it originally shipped with the resolution locked at a certain size, and then modders came out with a widescreen mod that allowed you to not only change the resolution, but to change it to widescreen (original was before hd). The guys who released the enhanced edition just included the widescreen mod for it.

So, long story short, the "old game" actually didn't have anything like that. It has it now thanks to the fan community.

It supported 4:3 resolutions up to 2048X1536 originally, but the modding community did add widescreen support.

They didn't just include the widescreen mod, they pretty much redid the rendering engine and the GUI.

The widescreen mode scales the battlefield area but not the GUI. So you end up with a tiny GUI and a large battlefield that you cannot zoom in or out of. Plus the Infinity Engine games have lots of issues with modern graphics cards - flickering, slowdown, fog of war not rendering correctly, etc etc.

The Enhanced Edition games feature a graphics engine that natively supports a wide variety of resolutions, and scales the GUI up or down to fit. Plus it adds zoom support. And saved games load much quicker - no more waiting while you reload your saved game.

It is a lot more than just a widescreen mod.

AFAIK, the original BG1 game was locked to 640x480. BG2 officially supported only 640x480 and 800x600; higher resolutions could be unlocked in BGconfig, but weren't officially supported. And only 4:3, no wide screen.

I couldn't say about Baldur's Gate, been a while since I played that one. Icewind Dale had the higher resolutions in the launcher, though it may have required the expansion being installed as I've never played the game without it.

I've tried to play these EE editions and I just can't get into it. I'll probably buy this and play it for an hour before never playing again
