ok are these good games? I hope so I asked them both for christmas. Do you guys have any tips/ suggestions for character creation, quests, anything else for a newbie to computer rpg games. I played D&D when I was younger but I never got into the computer games.

Icewind dale is tougher IMHO not as big & you only have one direction to follow, when I played the game monsters were not respawning so when you had weak characters trying to get more Experience Points to go up a level, it was hard fighting some tougher monsters,BG2 is better since it`s more open the gameplay gives you many directions to head of to.

Character wise, well I like a balance , 2 Warriors,Theft, cleric, mage, multi-class for last one,btw in BG2 ,you pick up your characters as you go along & can remove them if you find someone better.Read your journal in BG2 & don`t forget to talk to NPC characters for info & quest,& save often.

Great place for tips is the BG2 forum at interplay.com you have to join but it`s free & you can also access Icewind dale forum.click here for BG2 site click on all baldur`s gate boards top left.

I know about how you pick up npc's in bg2 I played the demo a bit(it's not very long for a 600 meg demo) any suggestions on what klass/kit/race for bg2. I was thinking a half-orc fighter or a paladin.

I started with cavalier,(warrior)anyway it does not really matter since you only pick one at start of game later on you will soon know which ones to pick ,theft is handy later for detecting traps,& picking locks etc mage & cleric help with magic fire power, btw have look at the BG2 forum ,the link is in my first post.

Don`t forget to install latest patches as well.

:)

hmmm in the demo the only warrior kits are kensai berseker and wizard slayer. The forums you linked to have a realy weird interface and most of the post are off topic.

Acording to that site a cavalier is a paladin kit the description is

<< A Paladin that is very adept at fighting "evil" creatures such as Demons and Dragons. >>

Since a paladin is a fighter subclass I guss a cavalier is a fighter. thx for the help.

Paladin is a class of it's own, a cavalier is paladin kit, along with the inquisitor and the undead hunter.

The cavalier gets:
+3 to hit, + and plus 3 to damage against all demonic and draconic creatures
remove fear spell oncer per day per level
immune to fear and morale failure
immune to all poisons
20% res fire
20% res acid

Pretty damn smooth character if you ask me :)

Biggest disadvantage is that you have to be lawful good, and human. Can't dual or multiclass.

Personally i went for a kick ass straight fighter in BG1 and at the start of BG2. At Level 10 i switch to being a mage, It is a pretty handy combo.
