Ice Fishing is fun

I went ice fishing today and it was a blast. There is enough ice to drive a truck on, quite a rush! Anyone else out there ever go ice fishing?

All the time
We mostly go for Walleye My best day was 14 Walleye 8 pike
I've got my truck stuck on the ice and had to leave it for 3 days before I could get somebody to break a path down for me to get out.
Now I kinda prefer the nicer weather days.

Awesome, I fish for walleye and pike too, with the occasional perch. My dad's out at my ice shack now, maybe i'll take a ride out there again today.

Your best success will come from moving around through out the day moving closer to shore or shallow as the day wears on.
Find them at a certain depth and drive a few horizontal to the "spot"
we will drill typically a couple of hundred holes a day.
If you just want to sit in one spot they may come back as walley typically patrol shelf and head back at nightfall.
If it isn't working don't be afraid to change you presentation, I've seen it where just a certain shade of colour wouldn't work while guys were catching within 5' of the guy who just didn't have the right look.

Most of the time i just fish with tip-ups. jigging usually isn't very sucessful during this time of year where i'm fishing.

Where do you fish at? couple hundred holes, man my arms would be sore!

So what kind of bait do you use to catch an Ice fish anyway, an ice cube? 🙂

Even with a power auger its a chore usually about 3' of ice to go through, but split up over the day and 3 or 4 of us doing it no biggie.
We usually fish by hand all day too , better success sometimes they bite so light the line just moves sideways in the hole and you don't feel any pressure so you do a hook set anyway and viola FISH ON.
My wife likes to sit in the portable hut though.
