Ice Cream Trucks

do you have ice cream trucks in your area?

they're kind of an integral part of summer in my town. they drive around playing this annoying song and stop every block or so to sell ice cream / italian ice to kids.

a friend from out of town was visiting me a few weeks ago, though, and was totally mystified by the whole thing. I'd always assumed that every town had them.

we had Uncle louie... he had a truck with soft serv
and we had the good humor man
and dunking donuts truck... with the weirdest jingle that i have not forgotten it in almost 35yrs.

🙂

Hearing the ice cream truck coming would send all the kids on our cul-de-sac scrambling into their houses to beg for a dollar. 🙂

Yep. When I was a kid "THE ICE CREAM MAN!!!" was a big part of every summer day. We could hear him coming from a block or two away. At that point it became a race to find mom, beg some money out of her and get out to the street to stop him before he got past the house. I'd almost always get those giant red white and blue popsicles or a cherry italian ice. Now my neighborhood still has ice cream trucks, but I'm not usually home at the time they drive around. If I'm ever out mowing the lawn or washing the car when the truck is coming down the street I'll stop him and get a treat. And most of the time, it's still one of those giant popsicles or a cherry italian ice.

Around here, they are usually turbin clad of eastern descent and driving Jeeps.

The only thing that really really pisses me off is when someone calls 'The Entertainer' the 'Ice cream truck song' :|:|:|

Good story.

In my area there's this guy we call 'Big Worm' who drives the ice cream truck, he likes to rip off all of the little punk kids.

Yes, but around here they are 30 year old vans converted into some sort of makeshift ice cream delivery vehicle with no less than 50 different coats of paint all showing through a bit and always driven by citizens of Mexico. I'd sooner eat an ice cube off a pile of dog sh!t than eat off one of those vehicles though.

I live in the ghetto, of course we got ice cream truck. And then we have Mexican ice cream cart pushers.

Yeah, we've got a van in my town too... a primer/rust colored beat up Ford with 'ice cream' spraypainted (very poorly) on the sides and the back window busted out. And that crappy speaker, man that thing's scary.

Ahhh... nostalgia.

Yeah we have them. There are about 5 different ones that come through in the summer.

3 in beat up econovans w/ the stickers with driver that look like recent prison releases.

One Mexican lady in a Ford Aerostar that just has "Ice Cream" painted on with window paint that just throws in a CD and turns the stereo up (no loudspeaker). She has also taken the window out of the side so her ten kids in the back can pass out the ice cream.

Then we have what is most likely an illegal who gets dropped off in the morning with a push cart. He pushes it around the hood all day honking a clown horn,. Then he gets picked up in the evening. I feel sorry for that bastard.
