hmm if ICS can run on a Nexus S, i wonder which phones are capable of being upgraded to it.

I was originally under the impression that ICS was such a departure from android 2.x that no current devices would be able to upgrade to it.

That video of the Nexus S running ICS seems fake to me. An elaborate ICS theme rather than genuine ICS build?

So ICS and Nexus Prime announcement exactly a week after the Apple event.

Source? Fairly sure the latest crap of OMAP4430s, Tegra 2s, Exynos, etc, will be able to run it just fine. Whether or not you see an official update before you just upgrade to a new phone is up for debate.

There's no evidence of that.

I forget which blog I read it on now, but an Android/Google employee confirmed that it really was ICS running on that Nexus S.

This should be an awesome event. Hoping phone/tablets with ICS aren't far off. I've got $600 set aside for an ICS tablet. Take my damn money!

That money would be better spent on a slim laptop or netbook.

I just need it for app/dev testing. Plus I've been looking to pick up an Android tablet for a while now, and came very close to getting the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but, I'm going to hold out just a bit for the ICS announcement. I'm hoping Google will have a dual phone/tablet ICS launch. I don't think it'll cost $600, I'm just prepared to drop that much on an ICS tablet.

I tried the ICS launcher on my myTouch4G Slide. It was OK, but still not customizable enough. Google needs to allow changing the dock shortcuts.

what do you mean by dock shortcuts?

the ones at the bottom of the home screen? because you can change those to whatever you want

I couldn't figure out how to do it. In any case, I also can't use my LP+ widgets on the ICS launcher so it's a non-starter for me entirely.

I toyed with that on my Epic 4G Touch. I thought it ran like total shit -- at least compared to the extremely fluid and responsive UI of TouchWiz 4.

As does yours. TW4 is actually well liked and extremely fluid on the Epic 4G Touch.

With a 1.2Ghz dual core Eyxnos and a GB of RAM. Once there's a source built ROM for it, you'll see fast. TW has almost been as slow as Blur. Keep things in perspective.

And your credibility goes out the window. :p

He is right, TouchWiz 4 is the best Android skin there is since it delivers a hardware accelerated UI and browser. All of the objective reviews have commented on how the SGS2 is the first phone that can match the smoothness of iOS and WP7.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Galaxy S2 is the first case where CyanogenMod runs worse than the stock rom, after all you won't be getting the hardware accelerated browser on anything AOSP based.

You also apparently have never even used a device with TouchWiz, even the galaxy S had a hardware accelerated browser which puts well above sense in my book.

First bolded: You have a link to this? Believe it was discussed in the other Hardware Accelerated thread and there was no source link or proof, and no one was able to offer any links with definitive evidence. The only definitive GPU acceleration was baked into Gingerbread, and only in the minimal level.

Second bolded: I've used all the main SGS1 flavors in the US, Vibrant, Captivate, Epic, SGS 4G, and the Charge. All of them felt extremely laggy compared to the highly optimized Droid 1 or T-bolt I was using at the time. From what I can tell, the TW Browser had absolutely no GPU acceleration at all, feeling about the same, little slower, than the stock 2.2/2.3 Android Browser. It could be that it just had extremely poor GPU acceleration compared to Opera Mobile and I've just become accustomed to it.

I'm going to step back a little, since I haven't used an SGS2 model yet and no first hand experience with the latest TW. The Charge has the most current version I've used, and its still a crapshoot and a cluster. CM-sporting T-bolt runs rings around it.

I want details on whatever the Verizon version is going to be!

Hopefully, Verizon will be getting the Google Nexus, the Prime/Galaxy Prime, or whatever it ends up being called. Verizon passed on an SGS2 variant, and I don't think they have any major beefs with Samsung that would cause them to reject Samsung's devices?

I will admit the interface being hardware accelerated is hardly confirmed but it still is smoother than any other android device out there so it can't be all bad.

None of the US carriers have updated their Galaxy S moderls past Android 2.2 which broke gpu acceleration on hummingbird. On a 2.2.1 or newer rom the stock Galaxy S browser is every bit as fast and smooth as Opera mobile, I've tried them side by side to confirm it.

Go to a Sprint store, and get your hands on the Epic 4G Touch then. Like I said, I've been a supporter of LP+ for a long time, and LP+ is a great launcher. I find it performs way better than most stock launchers. As fast as it is, nobody will disagree that TW4 feels much snappier. I hate to use the term, but, TW4 really is iOS smooth all the way through. I can tell you how smooth it is all day long, but, you just have to see it for yourself. Until you have actually used it, you're not really in any position to say my credibility (an Android user since the G1) goes out the window. I'm not trolling or anything. I love all things Android. I'm merely stating that in my opinion (and clearly many others) TW4 is one of the smoothest, if not THE smoothest Android experience there is. Even watching YouTube videos doesn't accurately portray how fast and fluid it is.

As far as GPU acceleration in TW4, I don't think Samsung has actually confirmed that. I can say that TW4 is highly optimized for the Epic 4G Touch.

TW is almost as slow as Blur? Now I know you're dreaming.
You obviously haven't tried(or used) a TW4 phone.
