My DTV bill went down $3.00. They even sent me a letter to tell me about it. It is still hanging on the fridge. I about @hit when I opened it. Over the past year they have added many channels , DiscWings, SpeedVision, and more. More for less is good for me.

Yes, my rates went down $3.00 too.

From what I heard, a merger between Dish Network and DirecTV would be good thing. Apparently, because each network offers many of the same channels [they are doing double the work], when they merge a large number of frequency ranges (i.e. used for channels) will become available. Also, from what I hear the satellite companies have to pay $$ to reserve the ranges for their prospective channels. Both off which mean extra overhead for the satellite companies.

As I see it. Either we will get more channels or the prices should stay the same (I doubt they would reduce prices eventhough they would probably be saving some $$).

Dish Network buying out DirecTV would be a very bad thing.

Though there wouldnt be too many rate hikes. There would be less hot deals.
No incentives to switch from one provider to the other.

Dish has the capability already to provide anything that directv has and vice versa.
DirecTV uses Echostar satellites. Echostar owns Dish.

We should protest such a merger that creates yet another monopoly preventing
choice.

Have you ever been fed up with your local phone company, gas company, electric company...
wouldnt you like to be able to choose the best of the bunch yourself?

I went from Dish to DirecTivo and would never go back, it's worth any premium for the dual tuner capable Tivo receivers. DirecTivo customers are not being affected by the regular [monthly fee] Tivo price increase. You guys with "I like 9" promotion are forgetting after a year you pay full price so enjoy it for now. As mentioned before, the more common packages are a little cheaper.

I love DISH network, but I refuse to pay the full amount for TV service, when I personally believe it should be much cheaper or free with all the advertising revenues generated. I'll pay $9 for a bunch of channels, but not $25+- a few bucks. Plus I can sell my hardware and more than break even :)
