*Ice cold* Best Buy starting to refuse rebates with the excuse, "item was returned"

Anyone return a non-rebate item from a multiple item purchase receipt (which includes a rebate item) at CC have this happen to them? I just mailed out a rebate and then returned a different purchase from the same receipt there last week. Or is this only a BB problem? Thanks in advance.

As for CC vs. BB, CC has one of the most hassle free return policies. Buy it, try it, dislike it, return it. I think they have a few product exceptions to this rule, of course.

BB's new policy on not accepting rebates with price matches really is bad for their customers. I bought something at BB that CC had for half the price (after a CC rebate) a week later and I was screwed because if I price matched it I would loose my BB rebate. I couldn't return it either because I had sent in the UPC to get the BB rebate. BB was OK in the past, but their new policy is not very customer friendly.

As if rebates weren't enough of a pain in the ass. I think there should be a serious crackdown on what can and can't be done with rebates as far as consumer protection laws go.

I've never received any help from them at all. The last complaint I filed with them, which I submitted with very detailed documentation, got me nowhere. Their response went something like this, " the merchant disagrees with your account of the transaction so we have closed the file on your complaint."

Furthermore, BB, CC and Rebates (in general) suck. Staples is the easiest and best to deal with, IMHO.

For the life of me, I do not understand why you guys continue to shop at Best Garbage. They are absolutely the worst! They try to hock all kinds of junk on you from the moment you walk through the door; for the mkost part, their prices are high, and then, if you ever have a problem or want to return something, it's like dealing with the Gestapo. Best Buy is totally not worth my energy, there are plenty of better places to buy your stuff. Just do what I do and pretend they don't exist. You'll be much happier!

listen up!

legal suggestion for handling the mail in rebates with upc:

get two certified copies of your upc before you send in the original. then send in the original with a letter than states:

i certify that the enclosed UPC is original and purchased on new merchandise.

keep a copy of the upc and the letter.

when they give you a hard time go ahead and tell them you have a certified copy that you can forward but only to a supervisor. send this registered return receipt. (remember, you STILL have another notarized copy of the original. this will NOT be forwarded to them but kept for your records)

if best buy continues this, please contact me if you wish to be a member of a class action suit against them.

if the company is going to offer them, then they are required by law to honor rebates or pay the price!

Aside from my ranting above I want to agree with those that say this is borderline fraudulent. If there were as many law suits for malrebate practices as there were for malpractice in the medical field, companies would surely think twice about screwing the consumer through rebates.

(((Beyond this if the companies really wanted to give you the money and sell you the product at such a great price, the price in the store would just be as low as the after rebate price, without the rebate. Anyone who disagrees with this is an idiot, end of story.)))

I still stand by my earlier statement that some form of legal action is necessary. Just look at the turmoil HMO's are going through, Doctors are getting sued on close to a daily basis with malpractice lawsuits. If the general public grew a backbone and stood up to these btards we could present a case that might change things so we wont have to rant and rave in forums.

I wanna just add one more parallel I just thought of, which is probably better than the malpractice one. Recently in California the government mandated a do not call list. This forbids any company to call your residence trying to pettle their product, because it borderlines harrassment. If you are on the list everyone but people you have actually done business with are forbidden under federal law from calling your residence. I think this is a big step foreward in the right direction, other states will soon follow. To rap this up I would think a do not rebate list or somthing along those lines is necessary if they want to improve the customer and retailer relationship. Because in the end who keeps our money? They do! And how do they do it? FRAUD plain and simple.

Only done it three times...

But I like circuit city and I will give them the business....

I have to say it is a 50/50 chance with the BBB...
I have sent 4 complaints...two were resolved in two weeks and the other two were closed by them...for no reason.

I am with my fifth complaint right now...let's see how it goes.

well, i got my visiontek rebate from best buy csr -- she overheard the visontek csr laffing
but i sympathize most def
so the $50 viewsonic rebate from od 19" monitor deal is the only one i can say i got shanked on (and i have copies, registered mail, etc and called four times - they said they were sending it, then said the promotion was over)
still bleeding too, bbb and ftc were no help either 🙁
but circuit city is awful, their record inventory and arrangement is seriously bogus
ALL the various artists of ANY genre are lumped together!
but i don't like any of the stores anyway 🙂

I used to work at Best Buy. They would take back items, computers in particular, printers etc, they would check for rebates and deduct the amount of the rebate from the refund, but they would take back the product. In most cases Best Buy does not display open box items ïn the box", especially if the item is physically large such as a tv or computer. Also they do not want customers stuffing items in the open item's box and getting multiple items for the price of an open box piece.

They caught one guy who had used the stock ladder to climb up, get down a new computer and stuff in into the box of a large but much cheaper item.

I just don't shop at places that use these type of tactics. Actually, I avoid chains whenever possible.

I've always found that if you look around you'll find a better price at an independant on computer parts anyways.

I have received BestBuy rebates with minimal hassle.

Unlike some other stores, for instance, Circuit City. I have a mail fraud complaint in against them right now for 4 rebates from 18 months ago. The stalled the rebates until their "expiration date" had passed, then claimed I was too late! Dogs!

Best Buy can lick my balls! I just gave up on them a couple weeks ago and ran into this forum.

The only place I like to buy is on the forums. A lot better people to deal with!

In certain conditions you can. I purchases a Rio CD/MP3 player hybrid from them, bought the plan and sent in the MIR...three weeks later the thing fell apart on me. I brought it back for an exchange but they didn't have any left so they asked if I would like a full refund (including the service plan) and I agreed. 2 months later I recieved the rebate from Rio, didn't plan all this...it just turned out this way.
