IC7-Max3 Memory Voltage

Need some help 😛

I'm having a major problem with the memory voltage being unstable after 2.8v and the board has already been RMA'ed, DDR voltage fluxuates +/- .1v constantly... is there anything I can do to stabilize voltage after 2.8v?

Or should I just get a P4C and mod it?

voltage issue is a known problem above 2.8v on the IC7 series. go to the abit forum and read over the mods. personally i won't volt mod a new board. i bought geil ultra platinum pc4200, and it runs 267FSB + @ 1:1 at only 2.8v (where the IC7 is stable).

three choices:

1). volt mod the board
2). buy better RAM
3). buy another board

all mobos have their issues. i consider the abit vdimm fluctuation to be a VERY SLIGHT hinderence in my OC'ing. my 3.0c is running 3.75g with my Geil 1:1 at 2.8v. My rig is 24 hr. prime95 stable, and I run it there 24/7/365. I wouldn't ditch the board- I'd buy components to "work around" the board.

Well, through some searching I did find some mods, but I don't think I can do any of them myself unfortunately...

I do know some electronics geeks though, they should be able to help me here 😛

Or I might just get a true control and turn the 3.3 v up a bit...

I'm kinda at a loss on what to do right now, got my 2.8 at 3.57 on a 1:1 overclock but I want to go higher 😉

a 2.8c at 3.5g is about all you can reasoably expect unless you are using phase change.

1. no need for a new psu

2. just mod the 3.3 volt rail on your psu and turn the voltage up...

3. you can only do .15 less than your 3.3 volt rail.

4. why buy new ram when you have a GREAT board that just needs a vdd mod, vtt mod, vdimm stabilization mod...

all are easy to do and will improve the performance of your board significantly...

this is how you do the stabilization mod and if you read the thread you'll find the vtt mod as well

yeah i got the max-3 and an antec true control 550
with the 3.3 turned up all the way it reads 3.30v (so doubt that option will help you much)

i also can't seem to take use of voltages higher than 2.8 ( i wish they had .05 increments all the way)
i've modded enough boards and i doubt the mod would have much if any effect on the overall end result

with the price of memory these days it's prob not a good idea to buy anymore memory
better off just upping the fsb and using something like the 5:4 fsb/mem ratio

have you read the thread through soulkeeper? people are able to run higher 1:1 after doing the mod.

btw i remember when these boards first came out everyone said the max-3 had no problem but the other ic7 boards would
guess that wasn't right

the mods that people are using look like guesses on how to do something to fix another problem that they are guessing is caused the way they see it

like throwing darts at a dart board from 50 yards

i don't mean to overly downplay anything, but i've modded 3 athlon boards (vdd, vdimm, and vcore) also tryed to mod a few antec psu's with no luck
the only time modding really helped me was when i needed more than 1.8v on a t-bird

how are they guesses? the numbers speak for themselves....

well modding's not for everyone but it's a much cheaper option (assuming you know what you're doing).

Found a site with a ton of mods for the IC7-Max3, although I can't really do em myself 😛
