I just recieved a new p4 2.6c and IC7-G from newegg. I'm pretty sure I hooked everything up right but there was no POS, no beep, and a red light on the mobo. I tried using 3 different vid cards, two of them didn't pos and the other one just didn't even boot up the comp. I think the CPU and ram is fine. Anyone know the problem?

"no light on the mobo". Ya might want to try reseating the power cable or you might have the power lead on the wrong way on the mobo. Try reversing the polarity. A green LED should light if teh board is getting power.

i'm getting a red and green light on the mobo. Does the red light mean there's something wrong with it or is it normal?

I have an IC7-G Max3.

Do the following.

Undo everything from the motherboard. I mean everything. Cables, HD's ,CD-Roms, cpu, memory you get the picture.
Typically when a system doesn't boot, a single component isn't seated properly.

1. Install cpu
2. Install memory <<<< seat it make sure
3. Attach the power supply cable
4. Attach the 4 prong P4 power cable
5. Insert video card.
6. Attach keyboard
7. Attach monitor cable
8. Attach power cord to case

Ok what you have now is the absolute bare equipment to boot.
Turn on your machine and see if it can boot to BIOS.

If it doesn't, try clearing the cmos. Unplug the case, move jumper to 2,3 hit the power button, even though the system doesn't have power the capacitors retain a charge until you do this. Most systems will clear without doing this, but some don't. It's a good habit.
Rejumper to 1,2 , plug the power cord back in and try again.
If the system doesn't boot now, you have a problem with one of the components.

Sometime ago Intel started to require an additional power cable to the motherboard for it's P4 motherboards.
The cable is part of your power supply. You will note that when buying a powersupply it may be referred to as P4 ready.
If you look at this picture of my IC7-G MAX 3 just at the end of the memory in bank #1 is a white plastic square for the 4 pronged power connector.

After your reply I'm pretty sure this is all that's keeping your system from booting. It needs the additional power to start.

Another pic of the power supply 4 prong connector
If by chance your power supply doesn't have that cable, you are going to have to buy a new one.

Oh I think you misunderstood my problem...The comp is booting up just fine but there is no display on the monitor. My PSU is a 2yr old 350W, is that prong power connector really required for the p4 or you can go without it?

Yes it's really needed and it's not booting if you don't see it on the screen.
Just because the power comes on doesn't mean that you are actually starting the boot process.

Thanks for the help Silverback, seems like I found the problem. My power supply is pretty old and couldn't handle most of the stuff that was in the comp ie. fan's, dvdrw drive, etc... I got everything up and running, but I'm gonna need a new mid tower case with a good PSU, any suggestions for a non-expensive mid tower with a good PSU? BTW how much watts is good for a p4, 400w?

Okay, new problem...On the Hardware Monitor software that the IC7 has, it gives me a warning and says "Your 3.3V voltage exceeds the limit" when I turn it on. Whats the problem and how can I fix this? And is 38 C for the CPU a normal temp? Btw is 400w enough for the p4 or should I go higher? I currently have a 350w PSU. If it is then that $45 case seems like a good buy, do you know if it comes with the power supply 4 prong connector for the p4? Thanks.

Your power supply is probably going bad if you are getting warnings.

All 400W supplies being sold today have the fitting.
