Could this be bios related then? I know Aopen & Abit are using Award bios... Is Gigabyte also using AMI bios?

maxSe ~ what are your thoughts on the tiny little NB heatsink and fan?

would a larger (ASUS type) HS be better?

I'll answer. ;) I'd MUCH prefer a nice big passive NB HS to a small one with a noisy little fan! Intel, Asus, EPOX use this method.

You know... I haven't thought about that yet... I'm going to check whether it gets as hot as 845PE NB's... I certainly think a larger HS would be better, but I'll still be thinking about putting a fan of top of that too.. lol... :)

Btw, according to Winbond monitor, that little sucker (NB fan) spins 6500~7000RPM! :Q

These are my thoughts too after owning an 8INXP with 2 of these high spinning little fans on the NB and DPS.

maxSe, how is the performance compared to your BH7? It seems they overclock about the same, which is very nice to see. I have an IT7 and would like to upgrade to this board, but not if the performance increase isn't noticeable.

THUGS, it's not THAT loud, as I have other fans running in the case... but I definitely wouldn't recommend keeping it running while you go to bed, etc... ;) Do you have any spare NB HS like that? :)

ketchup79, as I've owned both IT7 Max2 & BH-7, I'd say it's worthy investment (besides, it's cheaper than my IT7 Max2 V2!!). It made sense for me because I skipped GB entirely... I haven't run any "real-world" benchmarks yet (I have some AV encoding to do in the short future, so we'll see... :)), BUT overall feel is swift, and boot time has gotten much faster :p, and apps are loading up pretty much instaneously... I think many GB owners experienced something similar when they jumped to GB from 845's... IMHO, I think these boards will truly shine when coupled with 800fsb, HT chips... :)

hmm, I wonder if that Zalman NB heatsink would be enough to cool it... 7000rpm must be really whiny.

Just to update you guys... I just replaced GF4 with my Radeon 9500NP and they ARE playing nice together. :) You just need to set the AGP to 8X in the bios (I'm pretty sure my Radeon is 4X though... are all Radeon 9xxx series AGP 8X?)

ATi Catalyst 3.2 drivers with wizard's 9500 -> 9800 software mod. Stock speed... no oc'ing... yet... ;)

3DM 2001SE - 16103

P/N on my Radeon is 1029422830 067378 (donno what this really means, but I think I read somewhere that certain batch of Radeons don't work in these boards...?).

here's an example of how the screwed up NB strap can effect performance on a IC7.....

3.4ghz 179fsb: 3dmark2001

NBS533 (set 2-2-2-5 / cpuz 2.0-2-2-5) = 14320
NBS667 (set 2-2-2-5 / cpuz 2.0-2-2-5) = 14167
NBS800 (set 2-2-2-5 / cpuz 2.5-2-2-6) = 13985

keep the NBS on 533 ;)

*P4G8X-D granite bay (cas 2-2-2-6) = 14334
