Hello, I was planning on buying a custom computer off some vendor. I've looked around, and the cheapest still-professional-looking one was ibuypower.com (/cyberpowerpc which i didn't like quite as much). I want to hopefully enjoy this computer without a million problems, so i'm a little worried with the bad ratings i've seen on resellerratings.com and cnet had a few bad comments (user posted comments) about ibuypower.

Has anyone else heard reputable bad news? Or reputable good information?

I've also seen other vendors that look incredible but have a 20-25% premium compared to ibuypower's 5% ish premium over newegg prices.

Thanks alot,

Kin-Kinslayer-Kinnishian

Oh, and sorry if this is in the wrong forum...it seemed best to me.

Are you looking for a gaming PC? If not, then you'd be better off with HP or Dell.

Dell support has absolutely become horrible.

OP: Look at your Sunday sales ads and buy something with decent rebates.

are you basing that on personal experience? i've had on-site next-business-day support with dell for my laptop and can only say positive things about the experience i've had.

and i use my laptop like a desktop... i'm on it all the time... and it sits on my lap so it gets a fair beating often. i've never had any problems with repair and they are fast and always do a good job.

OP: why don't you build a custom computer? the learning experience you'll take from building it (if you're up for the challenge) is extremely useful for the future; you'll never go dell/HP desktop again..

(i build my desktop rigs but i still buy dell laptops, if you haven't guessed by now)

I've never had a problem with dell support. My calls/chats typically go like this: call them up or chat online, describe problem, ignore them while they ask me to perform stupid random tests that I already did, say it didn't fix anything, they say OK someone will be there in a couple days to fix it or a replacement will be on its way.

Ahhh...Yes, i'm looking for a gaming computer, it's a pretty large budget (2,000 USD with more reserved for later upgrades). I'm mostly trying to find a reputable seller now, i'm pretty sure i know the config i want. Thanks,

Kin.

I've considered but really have decided that I'd rather not do it myself. I'm willing to pay a premium to have another person build it for me, and to have customer support, and such. I just want my computer now...:) Hehe

I might in the future (next computer) go for 'real' custom...But for now i think i'll sort of step in the direction of custom with a customized computer. If anyone needs the specs to 'diagnose' what sort of computer site i need i'd be happy to put them up. I just didnt see why.

Unless there is a significant cost savings with the X2, I'd suggest going with Conroe... but it's not my money ;)

Maybe intel is now much better, but i've always used Amd and gotten incredible performance and have always been satisfied with the price..I'm not sure, but i thought i'd stick with them for a while. Besides, Intel Inside is giving me a headache ;) [Not serious...]

Where-ever you buy your computer from please do not buy it from Alienware or Dell.
Alienware is a completely rip off and I am being absolutely serious. Dell I guess is ok, but their customer support is absolutely horrible and for that I will not support Dell (except their monitors or the super low priced computers.)

If you wanted a gaming computer you really need to overclock the processor so it does not become the limiting factor for gaming. Stock mid range CPUs just do not cut it these days for gamers.
I guess the downfall is they do say it voids the warranty when you OC. Manufactures cannot really tell if you OCed or not, but can tell if you fried it.

Another thing you will run into while buying a computer online is sometimes the lack of customization you have. Maybe you can't choose the particular motherboard you want and stuff like that.

I'd highly recommend building a computer yourself, having a friend do it, or atleast get someone else to do it for you. You would get a much better value, but ofcourse very limited support when problems come around.

meh, meh, i think it will for now, i'm not sure in the future. Is it possible to overclock w/o a clear harddrive/os? Or can i overclock down the line w\o reformatting?

Yep, that's my problem, finding the good site, with a reputation, and reasonable price. Stairway to heaven.
