Well my quest for the perfect laptop continues.
After being dazzled by the looks and some online reviews for the iBOOK and PowerBooks I went to the local apple store and played with everything.
Apple Store: Very nice setup, nothing is bolted down you can close lids, pick up the notebooks, play with all the apps to your hearts content.
Overall I like the 12" iBook and the 12 and 15" power books. Did not like the 14" ibook to much screen did not seem as good as the other models. The 17" pb is nice, but what a tank.
However I had a real problem with the quality of fonts below 10 points (or was it 12?) on the 12 and 15" screen when using microsoft word. 15" powerbooks were somewhat better but for the price I expected more. Same size text would look ok in other apps but in msword everything looked fuzy.
Does MSWORD somehow negate the font smoothing used by OSX?
I might sound overly picky but the main reason I am buying my laptop is writing papers for college. Crystal clear screen and great keyboard in a portable package are what I am looking for, at least for word the iBOOK and powerbooks did not fit the bill.
Is there an adjustment or something to enable font smooting in MSWORD? Or is it already enabled but just really bad?????
