The IBM ViaVoice Personal 9.0, can actually "learn" words and read back what you type!

If you don't find a practical use for this, it can make for some downright hilarious entertainment! 😀

Go to Staples search for item "471112" price is $19.94

Send in the $20 rebate (in the box). Free after shipping or add it to an order to boost the total to get online coupons.

FYI, this product is junk. Don't bother unless it gets you a good coupon. Maybe good for EBay, don't bother installing...

What about the other versions of it? My Dad needs a good voice recognition program. Does anyone recommend one?

This version does not work in Win2k or XP. It does come with a headset/microphone combo, so hopefully it wasn't a complete waste buying it.

IBM does offer a special upgrade price to the XP/WIn2k version, but a friend told me that's an additional $100.

Never got it running so can't talk about quality, but I suspect there is a huge difference between version 6.0 and 9.0. This type of software will eventually be huge.

I had it from Staples and works like a charm under WinME. I am happy with it and let me tell you that being Asian Indian, I have little accent but still software works very good for me.

Actually, it will work with XP. I'm running it on XP right now. You can get the XP patch here. There's still no support for Win 2000 though as IBM decided to skip directly to XP.

i messed around with version 8.0 (got for free a year ago or so) and after a few passages of "training" it would work great on some parts but would completely botch other words. It also didn't run fast enough (on p3/800) so that I could talk comfortably fast and see what is going on. You talk a few words and then it displays them. I guess it groups them and sees what makes sense phrase by phrase before it displays it. Problem is if it makes a mistake then you've gotta stop and go back and change it. takes a while. Maybe my southern accent is bad for it but it was neat and interesting but needed to be like 99% accurate to worth messing with it but i'd say it was maybe 80-85% accurate.
