Thinking of a ultra-light & mobile laptop. Two choices: Sony T170P/L or IBM X40. Which one do you recommend?

T>X>A

T series machines RULE.
X series is OK, built well, but I have had other issues (dead boards).
A series is a POS.

As with any laptop, get a 3yr warr.

No experience with Sony's.

I'd go Thinkpad for sure - it should hold its value better than the sony if you ever want to sell it.

The T-Series arent that bad size wise, way better than the A-Series. The X-Series does have awesome battery life though

Well, the T-series don't look that bad as far as the size goes but the 5.8lbs travel weight is about 2.5 lbs more than what I'm looking for... :) Thanks for the help.

I got an X31 and it is great. My roommate has a T42 and that is better :). Mainly cuz of the 14" screen and optical drive.

The big boss where I work just got the Sony that you mentioned. It is SMALL...like a few inches bigger than a Nintendo DS small. Also the LCD on the Sony seems "different" like an HDTV. It is very odd you would have to see it in real life to know what I'm talking about. But needless to say, the LCD is the best I have ever seen due to that lighting difference.

I'd go for the T as an overall great lappy.
