IBM Thinkpad Laptops and Next Generation Centrino

the thinkpad T42 series, X series has been around for a LONG time... Centrino has been around even longer.. it's getting dated a bit.

I'm wondering if you guys have any news regarding the next generation of laptops or the chip?

Centrino is hardly what I would call dated. Centrino does NOT refer to a processor or individual core; Dothan-core notebooks can still be called (and are called) "Centrino" notebooks if they meet the platform and wireless adapter requirements.

Presumably the next major advancement will come with dual-core Pentium-Ms. IBM prefers to stick to low-power chips for their notebooks, and they don't seem to want to use AMDs.

i just found out they released a newer version of the Centrino called the SONOMA.

Uh, about six months ago, yeah. New ThinkPads (T43, R53, and X41, IIRC) are Sonoma-based. Sonoma-based notebooks are still "Centrino" laptops if they meet the requirements, mind.

The next big thing in the Pentium M's will be late 4th aquarter this year, or 1st quarter of 2006........Dual core.

Another month or two and I'm sure we'll see some roadmaps.

Also can't wait for dual core. 2.2ghz+ dual core in a laptop (preferably thinkpad) would make the ultimate working computer. I'd actually buy a docking station for the first time ever in order to use it for daily use everywhere.
