Even if there was a 50/50 chance that I would get a laptop from these guys, I think I'd try with a reliable credit card. However, after reading Reseller Ratings, it seems the likelihood of you getting your lappie is very slim.....just tread carefully guys....don't risk this month's rent ;)

And do post if you get anything! :D

I ordered too. With Paypal via AE however. AE says it doesn't matter and they are well aware of paypal. If you think about it. If I am a shopper, going to the website. ANd it says it takes paypal. I click on it make the encessary payment with AE. If I don't any better, how would I even know GPS and paypal are separate? For all I know, GPS just uses an drawn out payment system. ANd that is waht I will tell the credit cards if they give me grief when disputing it. If you use AE, I feel safe. Taser, don't worry about some of these losers. They have no balls to gamble and they want to call people dumb who do want to take a shot. I look at it as a trip to Vegas.

What a joke! If it looks like it's too good to be true - it probably is.

Can you say "grey market" goods? I bet these don't come with a warranty AND have been reported stolen so when yours comes in do yourself a favor - don't mail in the warranty registration card. I pity the fools who used a perfectly good CC on this deal.

BTW, I tried calling their phone number and I actually got through to someone. She was like "Hello?" (sounding annoyed that I called). Before I could finish my sentence, she abruptly put me on hold, and never came back. The next few times I called, I was forwarded to a voicemail that was full. :confused:

in the other GPS threads, i had posted about this.

A TROLL that i help catch actually works at GPS computers. I learned directly from him and another co-worker of his that you are going to get scammed.

Just passing along this info again. What you do w/it is your choice.

croton, thanks for posting that information again. this GPS thing will probably pop up from time to time and the newer folks should be aware. i don't even understand how people are so ready to hand over thier CC info for such a blatant rip off.

LOL! I love reading the specs on these things. Check out the second Compaq one. ATI Rage Mobility w/ 8MB, then it becomes a 16MB Mobility Radeon in the same description. WTF!?!

like i said in the previous post, GPS gets their laptops from airport theives taking ur luggage while ur not looking. thats why it takes so long for them to send u the product. they have to have their team of thieves go out and find the right laptop which can take a while.

IMO, if GPS can acutally sell at those prices, then they can only have gotten them free. by stealing them.

Same units are on auction on fleabay with similar waiting period:disgust:.

They are either
(1) having the same source as GPS as mentioned in prev post
(2) trying to scam paypal

Baseless information is a dangerous thing.

Granted the chances that GPS is a scam is pretty high, tough to quantify but let's say 95%.

None the less there is very little risk from giving them a shot with a CC. The CC dispute process is easy and your consumer rights are etched in stone by law.

A few years ago I lost a CC. I didn't notice the missing card until about 2 weeks later. Whoever found it went out and made two purchases totaling around $3200. To dispute the charge I simply had to circle the charges, send back the statement, and sign and return an affidavit that the CC folks sent me.

More recently I participated in an online Ponzi scheme that left me holding about $2,300 worth of bad debt. One letter and about 3 weeks later I had the refund in hand.

Although they were different cards, in neither case did the dispute have any noticeable effect on my relationship with the CC company. No raised interest, no lowering of credit limit, no nothing. I still have both cards, they have both raised my credit limit, my FICO is still around 800, and I still get inundated with new CC applications.

So yes, ordering from GPS is a waste of time, but if you?re diligent, and you don?t mind the temporary lose of credit line, you should suffer no long-term should the inevitable happen and you not receive the laptop ordered.

They are a bad company. To bad, I wish I could really get the laptops for those prices.

<< why does the url say... /lapnot.html... sounds funny... >>

I was curious about this too, but it must be "Laptops/Notebooks" if you look at the link text.

It is strange that this company has been offering these deals for so long and noone has shut them down? Maybe this is legit. Man I wish it was, but I think this is too risky for me. Good luck to those that try this. Keep us posted.

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Why do folks keep posting deals like these that they know are not legit and won't be honored. Even if your cc co will bail you out, why go through the hassle? I just don't get it...

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

This hasn't been mentioned yet (and if it has, I apologize for not reading better... damn cold) but most of the laptops have a no money back policy on them. If by the miracle of the FTC powers that be, even if you do get your laptop on time and it doesn't work, forget having GPS computers do any favors on your part to make a refund.

These guys reek and it's not the close-to-retail pricing on everything else on that site...
