IBM ThinkPad 1300s Celeron 550/64/5/12.1/CD/Win ME $899

ok a few problems come up here

On IBM's site it says it is an HPA but on warehouse.com it says SVGA TFT, I am more willing to beleive IBM but i am not sure here.

Another bad thing is it has a nimh battery (they are heavy and dont last as long as lithium-ion)

A good deal if you need a cheap but high quality laptop and don't mind that it is an old model though.

here is a link to IBM.com LAPTOP

Yep I knew it sounded to good to be true, thanks for doing that research. Like you said if you need a dirt cheap laptop this should be just fine.

it's the type of LCD used.

HPA is a passive technology, and there is ghosting, that means if you move something on the screen, it blurs which is bad. TFT is active, which means less ghosting.

HPA is also somewhat darker than TFT. overall TFT is better for your eyes. um, HPA is cheaper than TFT, so you see passive screens on the cheapest of laptops.

since your eyes are important, look for active screens no matter what. that's what i do. if it's not active, it's not on my list. though if it's cheap enough, i'd go for it... ;-)

Mday - Thanks for the explanation, all I know is to avoid HPA like the plague and always go for TFT. It hasn't failed me yet 😉
