IBM T41 turns on and off

this morning the laptop was fine. a few hours later i turn it on and it turns off after a few seconds. it just keeps on cycling from on to off again and again. i have to press the power button for 4 or so seconds and it finally turns off. i took out the battery and harddrive. Once the laptop turns on it keeps cycling on and off every 1 to 5 seconds. any suggestions?

What happens if you completely remove the battery and run only on the A/C adapter?

The T41 is several years old - assume that you have not ever tried to clean out the dust and dirt that accumulates. Try blowing out or vacuuming out the air vent. Sounds like it could possible be heat related. Also, if possible, remove and clean the SODIMM modules. For a 5-6 year old laptop, there are many possible causes.

Why does he need a specific forum for this answer? It's a bad motherboard. It might on the slight chance be the power button board if it has one.

yeah, the motherboard is bad. i cleaned out the system removed the harddrive, dvdrom, modem, and wifi card. the power button is integrated into the keyboard. i even turn the system on and remove the keyboard/power button making sure the keyboard is not shorting out the system.

Hi,

If you really want/need a motherboard that forum is still the place to go. Look up Real Black Stuff in the forum.

He has Reballed motherboards forsale at a good price. The reason to go to that forum is it is totally dedicated to IBM and Lenovo equiptment, That is why....

It might not be the motherboard. It might just be a fuse that blew.

If you are to the point of buying parts for a 7-8 year old laptop, you need help.
