IBM T20 Detailed Information

3% from Ebates and/or 3% from Dash. Do your own math. I think this product normally retails for around $2400, at least.

Btw, is it possible to double dip?

Sounds like a good solid laptop but I still wonder how the Dell Inspiron 4000 is? Probably inferior to this one.

I just wish this had 128MB RAM, 8x DVD and a 15" display then I might consider buying it.

How does this laptop stack up against the Sony VAIO Slimline models (the Z505s)?

That is a good price. Cheaper than what IBM employees can currnetly get by buying a similar laptop off the Employee Purchase Program.

If anyone is an IBM employee they should know about http://www.ibm.com/shop/epp

They even sometimes have specials, such as when some friends of mine got their Workpad C3 (essentially a palm Vx rebranded and black) for about $180 this summer. Unfortunatly I missed out, and the price seems to be stuck at $330 now.

I have a T20. A little better then this one but a T20 and I love it. The thing is built like a rock, very sturdy. I don't know the price since I got mine from my company hehehe, but I would totally recommend this.

her209.. for the price, I would grab this unit instead of the Z505. T20 weighs under 5 lbs. and easier to upgrade. Not to mention everything else, like the 8MB SGRAM video. :)

I never had a thing for IBM laptops. I think they're REALLY ugly, especially with the red mouse buttons. I mean, those are antique designs! I really like the Sony slimline brand. I would think that the Sony is a lot more portable then this IBM. The cheapest Sony Z series goes for something like $1600. Granted its a celeron, but you're not going to be playing Quake3 on a laptop.

In terms of design I think Sony is better than the rest. But for quality IBM is still the best. A bit pricy, but you're basically paying for service.

Domestic service is good but I have heard horrible stories on international warranty. But even then, IBM machines don't break down that easily. :)

I got an IBM T20 w/128MB, CD-DVD, NIC from RPI for $2700 last August. My partner just got the Dell Inspiron 4000 almost equiped the same just last week, for about $2900. I have used both, for me, they seem about the same overall - I like them both. Anyone interested in asking me to compare particular features, I will do the best I can to do so.

I have an IBM 600E that I bought a year ago for $1300 used. To this day, I have never had any problem with it. Several of my friends and family also have or have had IBM laptops, and all of them will swear by them. They're rock solid, and very well engineered (although generally high priced as well). This looks like a good deal, maybe it's time for me to upgrade...

Nice find there w3b, I only wish I had the money to get one for myself.

As for the IBM and Sony comparison...IBM looks aren't too great, but they are sturdy and built very well, not to mention the great customer service. Sony Z505 superslim series are very light and looks very sleek, but it's a pain sometimes with all the external addons (3.5 drive, CDROM, DVD, etc.), and I have had some troubles with Sony warranty repairs. It seems to take them forever and a day to get anything done. Kinda sad considering it's such a big company. I would go with the T20, and I have been using Sony Vaios for a long time now, but the T20 just seems better since it is under 5lbs and has great service. :) Just my opinion of course. :)

I had a Sony 748, it was a fairly decent laptop except for the heat problem! Mine will overheat every 4 hours or so. Also, Sony's support is a joke! I've spend 45 mins of waiting and still get nothing out of it. It took them 3 months before they addressed my problem! By that time, it was outside of the warranty and they won't replace my damn laptop!

The T20 is a very solid laptop. I just bought 2000 of the DVD model at $2600 for my company so $1800 is a great price. Great design and great features. You won't regret buying this.
