why do you write IBM? the cards are not specific to ibm.. I think you can find what you're looking for by searching google a bit!

I agree.
The 7500 isnt great, but a 1910 mhz difference? :D
Even if you scaled that, it still would be extreme.

My friend has the Radeon 9000 on his T40, and i have the 9600 on my T42. I can run Battlefield Vietnam pretty well on pretty high graphics, though it slows down sometimes.

He can't run it at all, even with all the graphics down, it slows down too much.

My T30 has a Radeon 7500, and attempting to game on it is a cruel joke. Even when paired with a relatively fast (but battery swilling) 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 M, this computer will only score a 3500 in 3DMark 2001. Yes, that's a 3500 3DMark 2001, NOT 3DMark 2003! Some of the tests in 3DMark 2001 (like the pixel shader tests) will not run in 3DMark 2001, and MOST of the 3DMark 2003 tests won't run.

Benchmarks aside, I've found that most DirectX 7 level games will play OK at 1024x768 resolution. Games that use DirectX 9 features aren't even worth trying, however.

I have a T42 with the 9600 card. If you can swing it, I would go this route. The video card is near impossible to upgrade, and having Dx9 support and faster performing and lower power 9600 will add to the usable life of the notebook. The other choices are already obsolete. Not sure why IBM is so far behind in this area. Other manufatures have the 9700 card or better, and IBM just added 9600 to their lineup.

I have yet to see a 9700 in a system the size / weight of the T42

Anyone know a good benchmarking site for these? (anand?)

I really can't see IBM ever putting in a 9700 in their laptops. IBM makes business class notebooks and puts really only the necessary video card in their laptops. They seem to put the video card at the bottom of new ATI mobile gpu lines rather than the the top of the line (IE the 7500, the 9000 instead of the 9200 or the 9600 instead of a 9600 Pro, Turbo Pro or 9700) Business class notebooks typically don't have the latest and greatest gpu's (Cep for the FireGl T2 I'm sure that thing is kick ass)
