This might be old news I read it in the April 9th issue of PC Magizine (free subscription) here is the artical
<< IBM Research (www.research.ibm.com) showed a prototype of what it called a Meta Pad, effectively a complete PC (sans monitor and keyboard) that you would be able to fit into a coat pocket. The machine they showed measured 3 by 5 by ¾ inches (HWD) and could be moved between home and office, or plugged into a small display (to create a tablet-like PC). The prototype had an 800-MHz Transmeta processor, 128MB of RAM, a 5GB hard drive (which the developers said was moving to 10GB), and a Silicon Motion 3D graphics chip, and could run Linux or Windows. >>
also from PCmag a laptop battery that can keep your laptop pumping for 10 hours.
<< Want to run your notebook computer continuously on one battery through a 10-hour flight? Texas-based Valence Technology might make it happen. The Valence N-Charge Power System is a black plate shaped like the bottom of a notebook computer, and at half an inch high, it weighs less than 3 pounds for easy portability.
The N-Charge uses a lithium ion phosphate-battery technology, called Saphion, which the company claims can run a notebook for 10 hours. The N-Charge device can concurrently recharge a cell phone or a handheld device. According to Sara Bradford, analyst for Frost & Sullivan's electronics group, "Valence's Saphion technology is in a favorable position to become the battery technology of this decade."
The N-Charge, which garnered a lot of interest at the recent Demo 2002 show, will be available this spring for less than $300. >>
