IBM RMA - is this a good sign?

That's a negative Teddy.

I was well aware of what he was referring to.

I'm just asking if a new drive would be shipping from overseas or a refurbrished one.

Hence "replacement" drive.

What i don't understand is why they didn't just ship it from overseas directly to my house.

I mailed my defective drive to Cali, then I'm waiting on a drive that shipped 9/17/02 from overseas to Cali, then from cali to my house??? Take out the middle man and it would be faster.

I'd speculate that there are two scenarios:
1. IBM has a shelf full of replacements in CA. If they have a match for a customer, then send it from CA to the customer.
2. IBM is out of replacements in CA, so they have to wait for overseas shipments in order to fulfill replacements.

The only reason I can think that they wouldn't ship from overseas directly to your house is to control inventory. Having replacements come and go from one point is much easier to track.

It always seems like a long time waiting for RMA's to get processed. Let us know your findings.
