Dun worry, Intel and AMD are supposed to be 10+ Ghz by then, at least thats what they said back in the day
I mean comeon, this is over a year away, the final specs aren't gonna go anywhere but down. Also, i don't see much info there, how wide is the core, how many stage pipeline, how OOO is it, they don't reall answer these questions. I mean any foo can make a super fast CPU if its really deep and narrow. Remember that in the P4 the simple ALUs are running at 2x the clock speed, so thats 7+ Ghz parts. Isn't the Power5 20 stages?, i wonder how many this chip is? IT certainlly sounds like its following the deep and narrow architecture championed by Intel under the name "netburst". And the whole point of a RISC chip is to (theoretically) run lots of simple instructions as fast as possible, so i would have to say that its probably not doing as much per cycle as the CISC chips. But all of that aside, it doesnt even compete agaisnt them, only Intel's Itanium has to worry abouts this.
