IBM PC Camera not working, help!

At first, I followed the instructions to a T, and everything went fine. However, the moment I used another camera program, switched USB ports, changed settings, etc., it stopped working. I got messages like 'camera not attached to computer,' and 'No such interface supported hr=0x80004002.' I unplugged the camera, uninstalled the software, rebooted, reinstalled the software, and repeated these operations several times, all to no avail. I got so frustrated at one point I low-level formatted my hard disk, created new partitions, and reinstalled Win98 and the software. The camera and software then started working again. But I did something else, and now I can't get it working at all. Please help me, I am growing to become extremely frustrated with this!
