This is a kick arse deal on this computer. I'm sending it to techb@rgains but I wanted to post it here first to pay you all back for the great deals I've gotten here. I hope this is beneficial to someone out there:

IBM NETVISTA X40
CELERON 566
10GB
64MB
15" TFT
24X
CDROM
ETHERNET 98

After the $30 coupon found elsewhere you can buy this pup for $750, plus applicable tax and ship from buy.com. They just lowered the price on this this morning an additional $400.

Buy this pup from buy.com here

Cheers!

Note that this is one of those "Legacy Free All USB Computers," so there's no serial or parallel ports. Of course, they pretty much have a USB adapter for everything now.

Dang, it's a hot deal. The screen alone is probably worth about $500.

If someone orders this could you let me know when your order goes from "processing" to shipped, please?

I've been having issues with buy.com sending things to the warehouse in a timely manner and this one appears to be no exception. It's been "processing" for like 5 hours now. :( What's up with that?

I hope they don't send out other people's before mine!

So it took you five hours to tell us about it? The horror!

(I'm totally just kidding!) :)

Hehe, good price, but I wish the internal components were better. Component-wise, it'd be like a 4th PC for me, LOL.

<a target=new href="http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_664311U
">IBM US link</a>

PC World mini reviews are here and here.

IBM Europe flash walk-thru is here

The chipset in this one is not Intel 810 or 815, it's an SiS 630 UltraAGP. FWIW, the Tom's Hardware review of this chipset is here. It supports ATA/66, Virtual Channel memory, PC133 SDRAM and PIII processors with 133MHz FSB, so I'm wondering how easy it would be to crack one of these open and upgrade the CPU.

UPDATE: per the spare parts docs on the IBM site, the model 11U has a 4-layer AIO system board that only supports 66MHz FSB and Celeron :(

Ripped from the &quot; Conclusion&quot; section of the review:

&quot; The SiS630 did not perform well on 3D intensive tests, but, then again, neither did the other two boards. Even so, the SIS630 was noticeably the weakest on 3D tests. Although display quality was roughly equivalent to the i810E, the SiS630 make a notably poor fraggin' platform.

Motherboards based on the SiS630 are generally quite a lot cheaper than those based on the i810e. With a larger feature set than Intel?s chipset, excellent stability, low price and business performance roughly equivalent to the i810e, motherboards based on the SiS630 are some of the best values around for running business and Internet applications.&quot;

I'm not a fraggin' kinda guy and wasn't planning to run anything more intense than the MAME version of Burger Time, so it would suit the average user fine, I'm sure. With a Celeron 566 you could even do some respectable DVD decoding. Worst of all for me, I just paid $900 for a 15&quot; Samsung flat panel. Yet that $750 price tag for a complete PC is lookin' mighty tasty! Must...resist...temptation... AAAARGH! Just ordered one. DAMN YOU HOT DEALS FORUM!

My order just went from &quot;sent to warehouse&quot; to &quot;processing&quot;.

Something's fishy. We'll see.

I stayed up to ungodly hours to get this deal AND just sent a link to some folks at work! Great... Well, mine still says Processing so I guess I'll just wait and see.

I suppose since these were clearly a closeout from IBM on a slightly decrepit model, then it's possible that buy.com only had a certain number to sell and once enough orders were in they cut off the link. Right? Right??? Anyone??? <heh heh>

firstsource.com still shows them in stock at $754.63 (although shipping is much higher there)

UPDATE: firstsouce.com was showing over 400 available about 3 hours ago and now it's zero. Definitely something fishy going on.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Just confirmed at a different site that the 664311U (this one), 664312U (Win2K), 664313U (P3-667/Win98) and 664314U (P3-667/Win2K) are all indeed discontinued product. Wait and see, I guess.

Just confirmed with BUY.COM that the 664311U (Win98) is GONE, and my order will not be filled. No more stock at in warehouse or at distributor. Next closest one available is the Win2K version for $969. Not sure I want to pay an extra $200 for that particular OS, however... Does $969 still count as a hot deal?

UPDATE: Forgot to mention, they had about 300 of the Win2K units in stock at 11AM eastern today. I'm just not as interested for $200 more, though. For a thousand bucks you're reaching into cheapie laptop territory. Like the similarly-configured Dell Inspiron 3800 they're blowing out here starting at $869.
