IBM Microdrives?

Are these things really micro harddrives, you know with actual moving mechanical parts or are they just a more advanced version of the regular compactflash ram cards? I notice IBM already has the 1 gig microdrives out, will they work in any of today's pda/pocketpc units? And reason why I ask about the microdrives is because I'm wondering how durable those things are, can they be tossed around like regular compactflash cards?

they are regular disk drives. With moving parts and everything. I don't know if they work in compactflash devices. I wish they did, great for my digital camera.

I saw one at the store.. MicroDrive CF are CF Type II, my camera doesn't support CF II, I does look a little bigger. I saw it at Best Buy so you can go check it out.

Canon camer supports Type II and also Rio 600 supposely has the Type II for the 340MB Microdrive +

I saw that to for the RIO... Of course, I also heard it sucks batteries like there's no tomorrow... But, that would be great 1G of music in a portable player... I wonder how durable these drives are??? Can you go jogging with a portable MP3 player with one of these drives?

A friend of mine uses one of those in his Casio Windows CE palm computer. It lets him store a ton of MP3's. It does use a lot of battery power, though.

I have one on my Canon S10 and it is awesome! I have been taking pictures for weeks now and the indicator still says I have 999 left (>1000 cannot count). As for batteries, I did not notice a big difference between this and the CF I...
