buymstar.com has the IBM 340MB Microdrive for $105 + shipping (+tax in CA) - $50 rebate. The rebate is from the distributor of the Microdrive (Microtech) and is to McAllen, TX address. Shipping to AZ was $8 via USPS or $9 via UPS ground (not bad). The rebate expires today (8/31). The company is in CA, so if you want it, you have 3 more hours :)

If you want it for your digicam, make sure it's CompactFlash II compatible.

Not really familar with microdrive...is it the same as compactflash ii. my coolpix 4500 and toshiba e740 (just ordered) accept compactflash ii. If this card works, it is so much cheaper than 256mb of compactflash.

aluu, this is a real hard drive (just very small). Many reviews can be found at the digicam review sites, and at the IBM/Microtech web sites. The only disadvantage -- it has moving parts, so it's more fragile than the CFII cards.

yah, I've noticed for a couple weeks now that these microdrives have been on sale. Since I bought a Nikon 4500 as well, I've taken a hard look at them, but just had to stick with flash memory based on past experiences with microdrives.

We probably went through 4-5 1 gig microdrives for our senior project last year. They work great when they work but flash memory seems more of a sure thing so I went that route. Just my 2 cents.

From reading a few sites and reviews, I think I will probably pass on it for the reasons mentioned above. I didn't see a warranty period listed on the IBM website. Does anyone know?

Microdrive sux !
Drans batteryes like there is no tomorrow and they're not very reliable.
I saw bad comments from profesional photographers who lost all their work when they dropped the microdrive.
Stay with CF cards cause nowdays the price goes down and they're amazingly reliable.

but the 1gb version cant be beat for price/performance if you have 5mps+ camera and taking lots of raw pics.
