Are you getting any codes when the PC posts (in the 200 range for keyboard items)?

Thinkpad keyboards are some of the better laptop keyboards but they do fail often.

same thing happens to me except i have a t40. my solution is to pull out battery, plug in AC then add the battery back in but the problem is whenever i close the monitor, it shutdowns instead of going to standby which it should do.

After I disconnected and reconnected the keyboard connector, the laptop will work 100% fine until I did something different to the power source (plug in /un-plug the power adapter, or remove the battery)

Strange!

You can try disconnecting the Backup Battery (CMOS) to clear the settings
(remember to remove the battery & AC Power). It is located under the
Palm Rest cover (next to the Mini PCI adapter).

Reconnect and try it. If it still does the same thing then it is most likely the KB.
(I have yet to see a system board failure)

15" models use either RMB (which frequently fail) or ALPS brands.
14" models use RMB brand.

You should be able to find a reasonably priced replacement on eBay.
