That's really all there is for IBM, they used to have an eBay store that had great deals in it, but they've since stopped doing that.

They do have certified used thinkpads and a clearence section. My sister just bought a T30 2.0Ghz with wireless from the clearence section for $700 (which is a pretty good deal, considering it's coming from IBM and not a shady eBay seller). The Dell fanboys will say to wait for a sale, but in all honesty, I'd take a good condition, used T-series over a new Dell just about any day.

I'm curious why does everyone say IBM's are the BMW's of notebooks an dells are Hyundai's? I plan to buy a notebook soon and can get under the EPP. It's about 200-300 dollars more for a IBM comparably equipped, I don't know what to choose.

the t series are very nice with a magnesium case and excellent keyboard. i don't know how many 233Pentium ibms i still see working fine (albeit slow) compared to other brands.

check out Fatwallet.com there's always Thinkpad threads coming up. i use their forum alerts to send me an email whenever a thread with "thinkpad" in the subject is posted (among other keywords).

(on a side note, i wish AT had a keyword alert feature)

if you're penny pinching, definitely upgrade the RAM seperately (from like Crucial.com).

if i were to get a T-series, i'd spring for an SXGA+ screen, for more screen real estate. but that's just me and my many windows opened-fetish :)

I have an old Thinkpad 765L that still runs to this day - it runs pretty well too. I've dropped my T20, while running, almost a foot onto hardwood floors, and it still runs fine.

Thinkpads are seriously worth the extra money. If you're not planning on upgrading your laptop every couple of years, there's really no reason to buy anything else. I use my laptop for web browsing, excel, a little bit of Matlab, and other non-gaming functions. If I want to game, I have a very nice, very easy to upgrade desktop that I can play games on. I paid ~$600 for my T20 about three years ago and that was a good deal, they still fetch $300 on eBay.

Meh, I've got an IBM T42 and instead of wasting money on the IBM Ram, I just went to frys and purchased the Corsair Value Select Ram PC 2700 since thats the fastest ram the computer can use and I have to say, I'm impressed. Not the best timings but they're damn good and and the IBM ram that already in there didn't have stellar timings either so its all good.

to the people that have bought the ibm laptops, t or r series, do they come with an actual XP Home/Pro disc or is it a recovery disc? the reason i ask is because i would like to wipe the hdd clean and put just xp on it, not all the extra ibm b.s.

this question also applies to those that have bought the certified used ones...

Recent ones come w/ the ability for you to burn your own restore disks. :| On the plus side, IBM doesn't have much extra B.S.
