IBM and quiet harddrives

I've been checking this forum for opinions on quiet harddrives, and the verdicts seem to be IBM 75GXP, Quantum Fireball AR, and Maxtor Diamondmax. Are there any others I should be considering? And does the different modes (quiet vs. performance) on these drives really make a difference in noise? Right now I'm leaning towards the IBM drive with the Automatic Acoustic Management quiet setting, but other opinions welcome...

The quietest are the Fujitsu 5400rpm series of drives.
They can barely be heard accessing with no fans at all!

The acousitc modes basically slow down the read arms movement, making the drive quieter....but slowing down access times a lot.

IBM live right here. My 46GB 75GXP is by far the best HDD I've ever used. Fastest, and the quietest. How IBM does it, I have no idea, but I'm lovin' it.

I have two 30GB IBM 75GXPs and they're very quiet, very fast, and run cool.

Same here 2 IBM 30 gig hard drives and quiet, they have a utility to make them even quieter if you want.

I've got the 75GB GXP and everyone said that it is quiet and stays very cool. Well with my 80/92/150mm fans on then yes it is quiet, but with them off it can be heard. And mine is running warm to hot, so I ended up putting a cooler in the drive bay. But damn do I love that HD, now I just need more space

I have an IBM 75GXP 45gb and a Maxtor Diamondmax 30GB in my computer. The Maxtor seems quieter when it is being accessed than the IBM, although the IBM is slightly faster.

The Maxtor use Acoustic Management software where you can choose from almost silent with a slight performance hit to fastest with slightly more noise but still VERY quiet.
